
What does mental health consist of?
According to the WHO definition, it consists of well-being in three areas: physical, mental and social. Mental health is more than the absence of mental disorders. It is a well-being in which the individual’s capabilities are realized, he copes with life situations, participates in social life, and also works productively. Mental health is not only the absence of disorders, but also the basis for well-being and the ability to function in society.
Mental well-being:
It is a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction with life, as well as a low level of stress. It consists of several dimensions:
-personal development,
-purpose in life,
-control over the environment
-self-acceptance,
-independence,
-positive relationships with others.
The sense of mental well-being increases the level of activity, including physical activity, commitment to work, positively affects self-esteem and, consequently, interpersonal relationships.
Work-life balance and its value
Find your work-life balance. Remember that work is not everything. Devote your free time to rest, hobbies, sports or a trip out of town with family or friends. Achieving this balance is up to you, no matter what position you hold or where you are in your career.
How to take care of your mental health
- Rest and adequate sleep. Take care of proper sleep hygiene. It is best to sleep 7-9 hours a night. Too little sleep badly affects mental and physical health.
- Healthy eating. Proper eating habits will add more energy to struggling with everyday challenges. If you want to know more about healthy eating.
- Physical activity. Choose an activity you like. It can be a walk, cycling or a dance course. It is important to move regularly, preferably in the fresh air. Start with 30 minutes a day.
- Avoiding stimulants. Stimulants are substances that stimulate our body. These are, for example, alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, but also energy drinks or coffee. Negative effects after taking them can last for days, weeks or months.
- Social relations. Cultivate relationships with loved ones where you can be yourself. Share the good and bad moments with them. Thanks to such relationships, we gain self-confidence, we are not alone with our problems.
